Monarch Payoff

Cards whose abilities scale or trigger conditional on you holding the monarch designation, typically with an upkeep or end step trigger that checks "if you're the monarch" and delivers an upgraded effect. The Court cycle is canonical: Court of Grace makes Spirit tokens and upgrades to an angel while you wear the crown, Court of Ambition drains opponents harder, Court of Cunning mills more, Court of Ire pings for extra damage, and Court of Bounty cheats a permanent into play. Creatures like Keeper of Keys, Throne Warden, and Garrulous Sycophant also gate bonus effects behind monarch status. Narrower than monarch.becomes_monarch, which grants the crown but whose own effects do not scale with holding it; cards that only crown you without a monarch-conditional payoff belong there instead.
